HOW TO SAVE A LIFE
Being a foster carer is an incredibly rewarding thing to do. You get to help dogs who are looking for a new home and more than likely save their life at the same time. At Rescued With Love, we try extremely hard to match your home, lifestyle and dogs with your new charge.
Some people can only take female dogs because their male dogs don't like other males. Do you have children? Then we will fit in and make sure that the dogs you foster will be suitable. Are you home during the day or work full time? Again we will try and give you a dog that is appropriate to your lifestyle.
We mainly take small dogs, they have their vet work done, vaccinations up to date, microchipped under RWL (but we do ask you keep a key tag on their collar with YOUR number) and are wormed, heartworm tested and flea treated when they come to you.
We can supply collars and leashes, but sometimes people like to put their own on the foster dogs. You must have a secure yard and fencing. This is vital. There is a reason dogs end up in pounds, that is some of them have escaped. We like to try and stop every possible chance of this happening again!
Most foster carers already have dogs, and we take every possible step to test the rescue dogs prior to them arriving. 99.9 percent of dogs are fine once they have met. If there are problems we move the dog to a carer who is able to assist. This happens very rarely, and often can just be a clash of one particular dog with another.
We ask that you feed, clean, walk and care (along with love of course) your foster dog, just like your own. This can involve housetraining, leash training, sitting for food, and ironing out small behaviours with proper ownership skills.
Sometimes you might have to drive your foster dog to one of our allocated vets, or have a potential owner come to your home (by appointment only) to meet your charge. All veterinary costs are covered by Rescued With Love.
Foster carers can live in a house, a flat, a unit or on a farm. As long as you are set up for a dog, and think you can help us, we would love to hear from you. We require people to be over the age of 18, and we love retired people! So if you are looking to help a dog in need please email us at rescued1@bigpond.net.au and we will get back to you. We are more than happy to answer any of your questions.
