7.30 the show on the ABC tonight (and don't forget next week, it's on Shelters, that will be interesting) showed the seamy side of puppy farming and the inability of the RSPCA to be able to seize, charge or convict those who run these establishments, for a number of reasons.
Due to the Dept of Primary Industries Code of Practice having a MINIMUM STANDARD for enforcing how a companion animal can be bred, lives and is housed denies the RSPCA the ability to seize animals and take them into care unless it is SO horrific, we are shocked by the practice.
As seen tonight on the 7.30 Report, the RSPCA who only received the footage of a puppy farm in Victoria today, despite footage taken 4 months ago by Activist Debra Tranter, show that this facility is in clear breach of the Code.
Our Minister for Agriculture, Peter Walsh doesn't see too much wrong with the practice, saying animals on puppy farms have 'shiny coats' and are timid and scared because of the camera lights. Yeah right.
It is disturbing enough to watch the footage, so gutwrenching, the journalist warned viewers of the footage, yet the Minister who rules on our legislation sees nothing wrong with it. The animals are on a hiding to nothing - no matter how hard the RSPCA or Activists such as Debra Tranter yell.
Please send a letter or an email to Peter Walsh at

And log onto the ABC website and view the segment, show others, and educate them too. Puppy farming MUST be abolished.
Our country is behind, do not be fooled. Ireland has legislation Banning Puppy Farming.
its time we did too.
